Why, Am I Overthinking Everything
And, how do I chill out?!

Let’s be honest—overthinking should honestly count as a hobby at this point.
You ever text someone and they leave you on read for 5 minutes, and suddenly your brain is like:
“Did I say something weird? Should I unsend it? Do they hate me now??”
Yeah. Same.
Welcome to the wonderful world of overthinking. It’s like having a brain that never stops talking… even when you’re just trying to chill.
So… What Is Overthinking?
Overthinking is when your brain takes a simple thing and turns it into a full-on movie. Like:
- “What if I fail this quiz and then fail the class and then never get a job and then—”
- “I said ‘hi’ weird. Everyone thinks I’m awkward now.”
- “Should I post this or is it cringe or will people think I’m trying too hard or not hard enough or—”
It’s like your brain’s stuck in hyper mode, and it just won’t stop.
Why Do We Do This??
You're not just being dramatic. There are actual reasons:
- We care – You want to do well, fit in, and not mess things up. That’s normal!
- The internet never sleeps – Social media = constant comparison. It's hard not to overthink when you’re seeing everyone’s "perfect" moments 24/7.
- Life feels big – School, friends, family, future plans… it's a lot. Your brain is trying to keep up.
When Overthinking Gets Annoying
Sometimes overthinking:
- Makes us second-guess everything
- Keeps us up at night replaying one tiny thing
- Makes us scared to try new things
- Turns small stuff into huge drama (in our own heads)
It’s like having a mental storm… over literally nothing.
So What Can You Do About It?
Here are some chill tricks to help quiet the chaos:
🧠 Name it: Say, “Okay, I’m overthinking right now.” Sounds simple, but it helps.
⏳ Set a timer: Give yourself like 10 minutes to think about it… then let it go. (Put on music, go outside, distract your brain.)
📓 Write it down: Journaling sounds boring, but just dumping your thoughts out can help your brain stop looping.
💬 Talk to someone: A friend, a parent, a counselor. Don’t keep it all stuck in your head.
📴 Put the phone down: Sometimes you’re not actually overthinking—you’re just overstimulated. Take a break from the scroll.
Final Thoughts (Don’t Overthink These 😅)
Overthinking doesn’t mean something’s wrong with you. It means your brain is active. You’re thoughtful. You care.
Just remember:
Not every thought deserves your full attention.
Not every "what if" is worth stressing over.
And sometimes, you just gotta hit the mental “mute” button and live your life.
You’ve got this. Seriously. Now go do something fun and stop rereading that text for the 12th time 😉
